The beginning a new year always to mind…..TAXES!
In checking out the latest episode of Alameda Currents, Alameda’s weekly cable and internet news show. (Shows are available on-line for easy viewing). But I digress.
Alameda Karen Zeltzer is a personal fave of mine in terms of the content she brings to the show. and the Jan. 3 episode is no different.
[Jump to 11:00 on the clock if you want to skip the intro. Congrats to Debbie George (pictured with Jeff Cambra) on becoming PSBA’s new Board President!)
She speaks with Leah Talley of Alameda Family Services and Jim Franz of the American Red Cross about theEarn it Keep it Save it program. Available to low-income families, the program connects people in need of tax return help with volunteers who can provide it for free.
In it’s fourth year, the program is available nearly every saturday From February and Tax Day at Chipman middle school from 10-3pm. Qualifying people can just drop in, though setting up an appointment is recommended (522-8363). Translators are available.
Volunteers will be available:
- February 2, 9, 16, 23
- March 1, 15, 29
- April 5, 12
Watch the video while you work (or more like, listen to it while you work). The more I learn about Alameda Family Services (much of it from Karen’s reporting on Alameda Currents) the prouder I am that we live in a community that provides quality services that make a real impact in people’s lives (and by extension those of us who don’t use them).
Update: The Alameda Journal has a good article on this program as well.
