Wednesday (1/14) there are two great meetings for interesting discussions of an environmental/sustainability bent.
At 6:30, CASA (Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda) will hold their third community meeting at the Alameda Library (2 hours).
A 7:00, the Alameda Democratic Club holds it’s monthly meeting at Alameda Hospital (signage will direct you to the event) with speaker Michael Brune, the executive Director of the Rainforest Action Network (2 hours).
More Info on both meetings:
CASA:
CASA is a community-wide coalition that will raise awareness, mobilize community action, and facilitate implementation of programs to achieve the goal of Alameda’s Local Action Plan for Climate Protection (to reduce Alameda’s carbon emissions to 25% below 2005 levels by the year 2020) and to increase community sustainability and well-being.
Alameda Democratic Club:
Alameda resident Michael Brune is the executive director of Rainforest Action Network (RAN) and a founding board member of Oil Change International, which is dedicated to dissolving the political barriers to a clean energy transition. RAN has been referred to as “some of the savviest environmental agitators in the business” by the Wall Street Journal. Mr. Brune is also author of the book, “Coming Clean: Breaking America’s Addiction to Oil and Coal.”

I encourage everyone to come to the CASA meeting and get involved in one of our initiatives. We have some great ideas brewing and need Alamedans to help us build a more sustainable future for our city.
We also have a great speaker, Jennifer Gray, speaking to us about the Transition movement. I think Alameda, and CASA, can learn alot from this movement and we look forward to hearing her tomorrow.
That being said, if you can’t make the CASA meeting you should go see Michael Brune. He is a terrific speaker (he spoke at the October CASA meeting) and his book is excellent – a clear analysis of what’s wrong and a hopeful vision for how we can help make change locally and in the larger arena.
