Bay Bridge closed Tuesday: Alameda edition

September 7, 2009

I thought it would be good to put together Alameda related commute options for tomorrow’s unexpected Bay Bridge closure. Though I’d imagine that everyone’s already come up with a plan since it was closed last Friday.

1. Telecommute

2. Ferries (lots of trips, but leave early or late!). Ride a bike, Line 63 bus or walk because parking may be a bear. From 511.org:

Alameda/Oakland Ferry

On Tuesday, September 8, the ferry will operate an expanded schedule with 26 round-trips between Alameda, Oakland, and San Francisco.  Ferries will depart from all three ports approximately every thirty minutes beginning at 6:00 a.m. until 7:55 p.m.

Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry

On Tuesday, September 8, the Harbor Bay Ferry will expand its service to 24 round-trips from the regular 7. Departures will be approximately every half hour from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and from 2:05 PM to 8:05 PM.

3. BART, like the ferry, walking/bussing/biking are recommended (Bike station does FREE valet parking to first ~250 bikes), parking is going to be a pain.

Thank goodness for 511.org, as the Alameda Ferry websites have no info on the additional runs tomorrow. Happy Labor Day and good luck commuting.
