Alameda, please welcome your Top Ten Customers! A quick and dirty rundown of Alameda's Top 10 Employers and Energy Users.
18 months ago, AUSD and the Board of Education received a demographic study for the district from Lapkoff and Gobalet. This study came under a lot of criticism during the Edison enrollment/lottery discussion and I thought it would be interesting to look at how it has faired two years out.
AUSD needs to identify its threshold for adding a new class at Edison so that incoming parents have some idea as to what to expect next fall.
USD has just announced that they will add a fourth kindergarten this year to accomodate the 78 children who have enrolled for next year's kindergarten.
EBMUD is working on its new pricing schedule for the coming year (and the coming drought). the current pricing framework works well for the district's financial planning, but it may not be the most effective way to plan for conservation and drought.
EBMUD customers reduced water use just over 10% since the declaration of a drought in July, despite EBMUD's anemic "drought pricing" policy. But this is 30% under their goal. Without better stewardship, we're in trouble this year.
So it looks like Alameda Point as an issue in Alameda is beginning to heat up. What is unfortunate, and completely predictable, is the way in which things are beginning.
Wednesday (1/14) there are two great meetings for interesting discussions of an environmental/sustainability bent.
