Since East Bay MUD instituted its drought program, the city of Alameda has been the number one city in Alameda County (and number two in the combined Alameda County/Contra Costa County district) in terms of reduction of water usage.
EBMUD is working on its new pricing schedule for the coming year (and the coming drought). the current pricing framework works well for the district's financial planning, but it may not be the most effective way to plan for conservation and drought.
EBMUD customers reduced water use just over 10% since the declaration of a drought in July, despite EBMUD's anemic "drought pricing" policy. But this is 30% under their goal. Without better stewardship, we're in trouble this year.
